Encoders are vital to closed loop systems, so much so part of our logo reflects that (the top left part of the logo is similar to a rotary encoder track). How encoders may be used and in what form is application dependent. Encoders can be used for precision feedback (accuracy to 0.125 micron) on rotary and linear machine tool axes; however lesser resolution applications such as web position tracking, dancer control, and press position also use feedback. Encoders and feedback devices come in many mechanical forms – linear, rotary, rotary ring, harsh duty (IP67), string, and tape on (lengths to 30M). They come in absolute and incremental types, output forms can be digital or analog and include – quadrature, sine/cosine, SSI, BiSS-C, Endat, Fanuc interface, Drive CLiQ (Siemens) and more.
